Z Value Definition

The value of a surface at a particular X,Y location, for example, elevation. The Z value usually refers to 3D features, but in GIS it can also refer to a system in which the third dimension is constrained to a very simple relationship with the other two dimensions (e.g. where Z is a single valued function of X and Y).
